Summer Learning Journey Activity 1

Hello Bloggers

Today my class is doing summer learning journey and we had 3 options. Option no 1 was choose 10 foods that you would take when you were on a journey from somewhere to somewhere else what would be the 10 foods? The second activity was about culture I had to go on my blog and tell about my culture, language and why my culture is important to me?

The third activity was about charity you had to chose a charity and then you had to do something or the other lets get to what I am doing. I am doing culture because I want everyone to know what I feel about my culture and what my language is.

So I am from India and I speak Hindi and Malayalam, Malayalam is a language from a place called Kerala. The reason I like being Indian is because when I first came here everyone thought that  I was weak and weird because I was from a different country and I was underestimated and I proved a lot of people wrong. That is one of the many other reasons that I like being an Indian, another reason I liked being Indian is that I am different from people that are in my class because most of them are Samoan, Tongan or Maori and  am one of the few special people that are from India.

  1. Tēnā Koe Ashwin,

My name is Kueni, I am one of the blog commenters apart of the Ako Hiko cluster for the Summer Learning Journey this summer. I am very excited to be on board and look forward to reading your blog posts along with the other learners within the Ako Hiko cluster. Have you taken part in the Summer Learning Journey before?

Thank you for sharing a piece of your cultural identity and where you and your family come from. I like that you acknowledged that you can speak not only English but also Hindi and Malayalam, makes you a trilingual or multilingual which is very rare, especially at such a young age, so kei te pai! Maybe you can teach me some greetings and phrases in your language and I can teach you some of mine as I am Samoan, Maori and Tongan.

Everyone is super unique and very different from one another, which is what I love about living in such a diverse and multicultural country like New Zealand. I also love India, and hope one day to go and visit, mostly because I want to visit the Taj Mahal, have you and your family ever travelled to India?

I look forward to reading more of your blog posts,
    Kueni

  2. Tēnā koe Ashwin, how is your day going so far? I hope you are enjoying the sunshine :)

This is an excellent post, thanks for being so open - I appreciated that! I really enjoyed reading about where you and your family come from, and what languages you speak. I visited India in 2014 and 2015, and I actually went to Kerala! I loved it there - everything from the food, to the people, to the beautiful backwaters. Are you and your family from Kerala? If so, what part?

I think you should be proud of your culture, we are all so different as Kueni has said above and that is what makes us special and unique. I would love to know more about what it means to you to be Indian? Does your family have any Indian traditions? What is your favourite Indian meal that is cooked in your household?

I’ve noticed that you haven’t been active in a while, and we really enjoyed reading your posts when you were active. I thought I would just jump on your blog and give you a gentle reminder that the Summer Learning Journey finishes next Friday (24th January) so you have until then to do as many activities as you can. Remember that the more activities you do, the more points you gain and the higher the chance of you winning some really cool prizes!

Happy blogging, I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
    Eliza.
